With nine candidates and polls showing no clear front-runner, the race for Chicago mayor is all but certain to head to a costly, divisive runoff. In the meantime, many voters are struggling with whether to vote for the candidate they like best and risk “wasting their vote” if their favorite doesn’t do well, or voting for the “lesser of two evils” who might have the best chance of winning. With ranked-choice voting, Chicagoans would be spared that dilemma, along with a lengthy runoff campaign.
