Chicago City Council considers public financing proposal, RFI ED testifies
From the Chicago Sun-Times: City Council’s Committee on Ethics and Oversight heard testimony on Monday from RFI Executive Director Alisa Kaplan and New York City Councilmember Shahana Hanif about how public campaign financing would transform Chicago’s political landscape.
“Fair elections … empower candidates and elected officials to pay more attention to the constituents who need the most instead of those who can pay the most. And they reduce opportunities for corruption and the pay-to-play politics that can waste money and undermine the public’s trust in government,” Kaplan said.
