Ald. Michele Smith’s $72,000 side job is a campaign issue in Lincoln Park
Via The Chicago Tribune
Add a new, unusual entry to the annals of Chicago aldermen holding side jobs to pad their six-figure incomes for what’s billed as full-time work at City Hall.
Lincoln Park Ald. Michele Smith is getting $6,000 a month from her top campaign contributors to help their small, Wilmette nonprofit foundation to quietly seek out three mid-career artists a year and give them no-strings-attached $33,000 grants.
That work for the Helen Coburn Meier & Tim Meier Charitable Foundation for the Arts pays Smith $72,000 a year, money that comes on top of her $108,000-a-year salary as 43rd Ward alderman.
