Anan forum takes on campaign finance
Staff Reporter
Village President Anan Abu-Taleb continues his public forum series next week with the focus on establishing a public campaign finance ordinance for village elections.
Abu-Taleb, a local restaurant owner who took office last year, raised $72,000 in the campaign — $23,000 of which was his own money — to defeat opponent John Hedges, who raised a total $21,229.
Hedges was endorsed by the Village Manager Association, an organization that recruits and endorses candidates for local public office. The group, which has been a powerful political force over the past six decades and frequently runs candidates unopposed, loaned Hedges $3,500 for his campaign.
