Bernard Schoenburg: Simon still pushing for new disclosure forms

The quest for government transparency — a popular phrase these days — continues to be difficult when it gets into details.
I wrote a column three years ago in which Lt. Gov. SHEILA SIMON said that the financial disclosure forms that certain public officials and candidates in Illinois have to file annually are “practically meaningless.” A response often seen to questions on separate forms that state and local officials have to file is “N/A,” meaning not applicable.
Simon and others have said the wording needs to be much more specific to get necessary information to the public.
