Campaign contribution limits off in Chicago mayor’s race

It just got a little easier for Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s well-financed re-election campaign to continue to build on its massive fundraising advantage, after a little-known mayoral candidate put $100,000 of his own money into his campaign and lifted state contribution limits for everyone in the race.
Conservative candidate William J. Kelly, who listed himself as a TV producer on his campaign paperwork, put the money in Monday. Under state law, once a candidate in a local race exceeds contributions to his own campaign of $100,000 within a year of the election, all contribution limits for all candidates in the race are lifted. Kelly had made loans to his campaign earlier this summer.
