Challengers target Mayor Emanuel’s political fundraising in latest debate

Rahm Emanuel’s fundraising prowess became the focus of the fourth forum of Chicago’s mayoral campaign Thursday night as his challengers accused him of using pay-to-play politics to amass more than $30 million during his city political career.

In an hourlong forum hosted by WLS-Ch. 7, Univision and the League of Women Voters of Illinois, Emanuel found himself largely on the defensive, calmly but repeatedly turning to financial issues by reciting that he’s had a first term with no city property tax, sales tax or gas tax increase at City Hall.
