City Council showdown on watchdog power looms

Today’s Chicago City Council meeting pregame could feature a showdown between aldermen and the watchdog who is supposed to investigate them.
The agenda of the Rules Committee, which huddles before the council meeting gets underway, includes an ordinance sponsored by Ald. Patrick O’Connor, 40th, that would thwart an effort by Legislative Inspector General Faisal Khan to get greater power to probe the campaign finances of aldermen.
