City Council to vote on watchdog measure, ballot questions
Via the Chicago Tribune
The Chicago City Council Wednesday is expected to approve expanding the authority of the city’s internal watchdog to the little-known Public Building Commission that spends hundreds of millions of dollars a year to build, rent and maintain government buildings.
Extending the authority of the inspector general’s office now run by Joseph Ferguson is in keeping with a campaign promise Mayor Rahm Emanuel made during the 2011 campaign. It comes as Emanuel is revving up his 2015 re-election bid, one in which his reform credentials could come under fire from potential challengers like Chicago Teachers Union President Karen Lewis and 2nd Ward Ald. Robert Fioretti.
