Clerk Unveils New Tool Aimed at Simplifying Candidate Filing Process

“It’s easy to criticize and complain about public officials who serve in elected positions. Some of us do it for a living. I try to at least be constructive in my criticism and critique policies and procedures more often than individuals.

It’s a lot harder to actually make a difference by running for office. Public service requires commitments of time and energy. Casual observers who become elected officials risk subjecting themselves to criticism from others. Who needs that, especially for a local, unpaid position?

In an effort to encourage people to run for local offices in the suburbs, Cook County Clerk David Orr on Thursday unveiled a new tool designed to simplify the process of seeking election to municipal, township, school, park, library and fire boards. The Running for Office Starter Kit is available through the clerk’s website, cookcountyclerk.com.”
