“Clearly, Gov. Bruce Rauner never has taken one of former Gov. Jim Edgar’s classes.
Edgar, who runs a fellowship program at the University of Illinois, delivered a frank assessment of the the state of Illinois politics and government at a luncheon speech sponsored by the nonpartisan Illinois Campaign for Political Reform.
The two-term Republican governor said the state is in its “worst shape by far” in 50 years, and laid much of the blame at the feet of his fellow Republican Rauner.
Asked, along with U.S. Rep. Robin Kelly, to share his vision for the future of Illinois, Edgar offered up three “C” words he said were the key to creating good politics and government: civility, compromise, compassion.”
