How third-party candidates can get better representation
“Competition among political parties – even if it’s just two – that’s certainly better than if there’s only one party. But you need to have enough robust parties that they’re competing against each other for your vote and there’s some accountability if they don’t do a good job. And there are areas – arguably Illinois and some other places – where one party is so dominant that there just isn’t sufficient competition to keep elected officials accountable to the people they are supposed to serve.”
