If Appointed, New Tinley Mayor to Get $36,000 Bonus
via the Chicago Tribune
If Tinley Park Trustee Dave Seaman is voted in as the town’s next mayor by the village board, he will receive longevity bonuses worth about $36,000 above his base mayoral salary.
But the longevity bonuses, which are part of an unusual compensation structure that rewards Tinley’s elected officials for remaining in office, may be a sticking point for village board members who will vote on Seaman’s elevation from trustee to mayor.
Seaman is longtime Mayor Ed Zabrocki’s handpicked choice to serve out the remainder of Zabrocki’s term, which ends in 2017. Zabrocki, the town’s mayor since 1981, announced last week he will resign effective June 1 due to health concerns.
In Tinley, longtime elected officials receive longevity pay in the form of a 2 percent increase to their base salary for every year they have served in office after the first eight.
