IL Senate proposal would bar red-light camera companies from donating to campaigns
Illinois lawmakers have introduced legislation to prohibit companies that sell red-light cameras from making campaign contributions to state and local candidates and elected officials. The red-light camera industry has been tied to corruption in Illinois going back two decades, according to the Tribune.
RFI Executive Director Alisa Kaplan’s take: “It’s good to see an acknowledgement that campaign contributions can influence public officials in a way that doesn’t always benefit the public interest.”
