“A federal grand jury has issued subpoenas to Illinois Auditor General Frank Mautino’s former campaign workers, the Illinois Times reports.
Mautino’s office acknowledged federal investigators are looking into unusual campaign spending while he served as a member of the Illinois House.
Bruce Rushton of the Illinois Times first reported Mautino’s former campaign workers were issued subpoenas more than a month ago, though the status of the federal probe is unclear. Mautino won’t say whether he is under criminal investigation, but a spokesman for the state’s chief auditor told the Associated Press Mautino ‘is cooperating with the U.S. Attorney’s office in its investigation.'”
