Illinois Budget Stalemate Persists

via The Wall Street Journal

“Civic groups in Illinois are pressing top elected officials to start meeting as a state budget stalemate stretches into its fifth month, with fallout affecting operations ranging from social services to paying for holiday lights.

Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner and Democratic leaders, who hold wide majorities in the legislature, have wrangled over the format for talks, but were preparing to sit down on Wednesday. Then, a weekend development forced a postponement.

The two sides, in addition to Republican leaders, haven’t all met since late May, prompting the League of Women Voters of Illinois, Illinois Campaign for Political Reform and other statewide groups to call for negotiations.”
