The move came after Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner repeatedly beat the drum against the pay increase as the budget impasse reaches it’s nearly one-month mark.
House Speaker Michael Madigan said the stalemate reflected a “historic” struggle between the legislature and the governor’s office and insisted that lawmakers had tried to meet the governor halfway.
