Illinois House Committee Approves Minimum Wage Bill

Via WAND NBC

SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois House’s Labor and Commerce Committee has approved legislation that would raise the state’s minimum hourly wage from $8.25 to $9 beginning in July.

Officials say the proposal, which raises the minimum wage at a slower rate than the Senate is proposing, was approved by the committee in a 16-10 vote on Wednesday.  Under the proposal, another wage increase would happen in July 2016, bringing Illinois’ minimum hourly wage to $10.

A different proposal in the Illinois Senate would increase the minimum wage to $9 in July, and would increase by 50 cents each year until 2019, when the minimum wage would be $11.  However, this plan hasn’t gained support in the House.
