“An Illinois House committee has approved an alternate plan to change the way legislative district boundaries are drawn.
The vote in the House Executive Committee on the proposed constitutional amendment was unanimous. It now goes to the full House.
Sponsored by Rep. Jack Franks, D-Woodstock, the measure would create an independent commission to come up with new legislative boundaries every 10 years after a new census is conducted. The eight-member panel would be appointed by the chief justice of the Illinois Supreme Court along with the most senior justice from the opposite political party.”
