Illinois Redistricting Reforms Could Land On 2016 Ballot
via Progress Illinois
The ongoing attempts to reform redistricting in Illinois continue as proponents push to have a measure placed on the 2016 ballot.
Independent Maps, an organization aimed at reforming redistricting in the state, is working to give Illinoisans the ability to vote on a measure that would put the process in the hands of an 11-person commission, as opposed to the state legislature. Board members of the group, which say the effort is bipartisan, include Tribune Company CEO Dennis FitzSimons, former White House chief of staff Bill Daley and former Playboy CEO Christie Hefner, according to the Associated Press.
The group will need 300,000 signatures to get the measure on the ballot; they are also looking to raise $3 million to boost their effort.
