Large, Non-Resident Donors Playing A Major Role In Chicago’s Mayoral Race, Report Finds

Chicago’s five mayoral candidates have received much of their financial support from large donors, shows a new campaign finance analysis released ahead of Tuesday’s municipal election by the Illinois PIRG Education Fund.

The report’s findings are based on campaign finance data dating back to 2011 through December 31, 2014.

Eighty-six percent of all the money contributed to the mayoral candidates came from donors giving more than $1,000, the analysis showed. On the flip side, contributions of less than $150 represented only 2 percent of all the money donated to the mayoral hopefuls.
