Letter: Money in Illinois Politics Easier to Track Now

The influence of money in politics is stronger than ever in Illinois and across the nation.
In the past 20 years, Illinois has seen over $2.7 billion in campaign contributions, rising tenfold from just $31 million in 1994 to $340 million in 2014.
To shed light on this issue, the Illinois Campaign for Political Reform teamed up with DataMade, a civic technology company in Chicago, to build a tool that would bring the business of politics to the people in a simple, direct format that allows them to clearly see where money is donated and spent in Illinois.
