“The intricacies and loopholes of campaign financing are on full display in this year’s Illinois general election, where roughly $3.9 million has been raised involving three area House races.
The races, particularly in Districts 71 and 72, highlight how massive amounts of money can be donated legally or spent on behalf of individual candidates in an effort to determine party agendas in the coming years.
Local races also reflect some of the bitter divide between Republicans and Democrats. Roughly $2 million has been spent on TV and radio ads in one race. Another has brought daily attacks and accusations, primarily through mailbox flyers.”
