“Using their district-issued credit cards, Matteson School District 159 board members have spent at least $51,800 since April 2012, records released by the district show.
Board members have traveled to conferences across the country, taking trips to Washington D.C., Boston, San Diego, Nashville and New Orleans, records show. They’ve logged at least 16 stays at downtown Chicago hotels, dined at ritzy steakhouses and booked rides from a taxi limo company, all at taxpayers’ expense, records show.
The district revoked one board member’s card after it was used to make more than $4,600 in what the district deemed unauthorized purchases, including charges at gas stations and health food stores, records show. That board member, Elliot Johnson, told the Daily Southtown someone stole his card and used it.”
