“Matteson School District 159 administrators and former board members spent at least $96,500 on expenses including food for meetings, hotel stays, cross-country travel, and Coach purses given to retiring staff members from April 2012 to April 2016, records released by the district show.

That total is in addition to at least $51,800 spent by Matteson 159 board members, as previously reported by the Daily Southtown.

In an interview this week, Interim Superintendent John Sawyer III said he has taken control of all credit card spending in the district after the board unanimously voted to turn in their district-issued credit cards. Sawyer, who became interim superintendent earlier this month after the former superintendent retired, said he had never before worked in a district where board members and administrators were issued credit cards.”
