“The campaign committee for former state Rep. Frank Mautino paid more than $250,000 to a local bank over 17 years, which is leading to more questions about his campaign finances.
In Illinois, campaign finance reports include expenditures. Each one is listed by vendor, under the heading “received by.” The vendors are the ones who provide the goods and services to candidates. In some cases, they are nonprofit groups that receive donations from candidates.
Mautino’s report, however, includes $259,877 worth of expenditures since 1999 with Spring Valley City Bank listed as vendor, according to state Board of Elections records. These are campaign funds raised by donors, not taxpayer dollars.”
