“More than $6 million was spent during the Democratic primary race between Rep. Ken Dunkin, D-Chicago, and challenger Juliana Stratton, and nearly $4 million was spent during the Republican primary between Sen. Sam McCann, R-Plainview, and his Rauner-backed opponent, Bryce Benton.
In both of those races, fewer than 40,000 ballots were cast.
‘It’s certainly unprecedented spending for this small amount of votes,’ said Illinois Campaign for Political Reform Executive Director Sarah Brune.
Brune’s politicial watchdog organization keeps track of campaign spending and compiles the data on the Illinois Sunshine website.”
