Nearly 2 Dozen Chicago Cops Disciplined for Faulty Dashboard Cameras

via Chicago Tribune

“Nearly two dozen Chicago police officers have been disciplined in recent weeks for having faulty dashboard cameras or not using them properly as fallout continues since the release of the video of the fatal police shooting of 17-year-old Laquan McDonald.

The crackdown came after the department was embarrassed when the video that captured McDonald being shot 16 times — as well as dash-cam videos from four other squad cars at the scene — had little discernible audio. Officer Jason Van Dyke was charged with first-degree murder.

Soon after he was named to succeed fired police Superintendent Garry McCarthy, interim Superintendent John Escalante warned the 12,000-strong force of the potential of discipline for failing to make sure their cameras were working properly at the start of their shifts.”
