Nonpartisan Groups Hoping to Help State Lawmakers Find Budget Solutions

Representatives from seven nonpartisan organizations delivered a letter to Gov. Bruce Rauner and four other Springfield leaders this week requesting a meeting to discuss potential solutions to the current state budget stalemate.
The letter’s signatories included: Citizen Advocacy Center Executive Director Maryam Judar; Better Government Association President & CEO Andy Shaw; League of Women Voters of Illinois President Mary Kubasak; Hoy McConnell, the executive director at Business and Professional People for the Public Interest; CHANGE Illinois Executive Director George Ranney; Abe Scarr, director of Illinois PIRG; and Susan Garrett, board chair of the Illinois Campaign for Political Reform (ICPR).
Along with the governor, the representatives also hand-delivered the letter to House Speaker Michael Madigan, Senate President John Cullerton, House Republican Leader Jim Durkin and Senate Republican Leader Christine Radogno, according to an ICPR press release issued Thursday.
