Opinion: Approve a Temporary Budget to Avert Crisis in Illinois
Via The State Journal-Register
Illinois House lawmakers return to Springfield today, making it a good day to urge them to approve a temporary budget to see the state through a budget impasse that shows no sign of ending anytime soon.
The case for a temporary budget was made stronger Tuesday when a Cook County judge ruled the government cannot pay state workers in full without a budget in place that authorizes the salary expenditures. About 65,000 state workers will be affected.
Gov. Bruce Rauner and AFSCME indicated they intend to appeal the ruling. Meanwhile, state employees could feel the effects of the ruling as soon as July 15.
