“For a few precious hours this week, it looked like we might actually see some progress in resolving the Illinois budget impasse.
On Monday at a forum sponsored by the Illinois Campaign for Political Reform and Truth in Accounting, eight rank-and-file lawmakers — four from each party — talked about compromising on the budget and even mentioned the behind-the-scenes work they’ve been doing to lay the groundwork for a budget.
You got the feeling that if these folks were in charge, we would have had a budget for Fiscal Year 2016 on the first day of the budget year. (Sen. Matt Murphy, R-Palatine, said as much.)”
