“In the three months leading up to the April 4 elections for mayor and trustees in Orland Park, spending on things such as mailers, phone calls and TV ads totaled about $362,000, according to new campaign disclosure filings.

Much of the spending came in the final two weeks of the election, with $183,000 spent by political action committee Liberty Principles on an advertising juggernaut targeting incumbent Mayor Dan McLaughlin who, according to unofficial vote totals, lost his bid for a seventh term to challenger Keith Pekau. Liberty Principles is a super PAC aligned with and funded in part by Gov. Bruce Rauner.

The spending in the Orland Park races far exceeded that of some other hotly contested races in suburban communities such as Aurora and Oak Lawn, according to reports filed this week with the state board of elections disclosing funds raised and spent during the first three months of this year. The filings don’t include any amounts spent after March 31.”
