“A panel on how to reform Chicago’s criminal justice system agreed that the city is short on two things: transparency and jobs.
The Illinois Campaign for Political Reform held a panel discussion on Monday on how to fix the city’s much-criticized criminal justice system. The issues centered around preemptively making the policing process more transparent and what Chicagoans could do to stop crime before it happens. The panel discussion comes days after the city reached the grim milestone of 3,000 shootings and more than 500 homicides for the year so far.
Chicago Justice Project Executive Director Tracy Ciska said the city should be taking the coming $1 billion it’s going to spend on new policemen and spend it on reinvigorating poor neighborhoods to create gainful employment for its residents.”
