“CARBONDALE – The director of the Illinois Campaign for Political Reform will speak about campaign finance at Southern Illinois University Monday night.
The Paul Simon Public Policy Institute is sponsoring the presentation. Illinois campaigns have already seen some big spenders, with Governor Bruce Rauner donating $16 million of his own money so far to Republican candidates.
Paul Simon Institute political expert John Jackson says Illinois Democrats used to be the big spenders.
“It would be that Madigan used to set the pace, and Republicans would try to keep up. Now, it’s the governor setting the pace with his money contributed to the Republicans, and Democrats are having problems keeping up,” Jackson said.
The campaign finance event begins at 5 p.m. Monday in the SIU Student Center.”
