Politically-Adorned Fire Truck at Hinsdale Fourth of July Parade Raises Ethics Concerns
At Hindsdale’s Fourth of July Parade last week, parade-goers saw a large sign for state Sen. Suzy Glowiak Hilton on a fire truck, raising concerns about the ethics of having public entities such as the fire department promote political candidates.
The Hinsdale Patch asked RFI Executive Director Alisa Kaplan to share her thoughts. “If this is a public fire truck being used for campaign purposes, it is indeed a violation of the State Ethics Act,” she said. Additionally, Kaplan explains that “while Hinsdale officials’ action may have been unintentional, the state has rules against such promotions for a reason.”
