“State Rep. Margo McDermed, R-Mokena, has joined seven other Republicans and three Democrats in calling for tighter controls on the travel expenses of local governments and school districts.
House Bill 4379, the Local Government Travel Expense Control Act, would provide that school districts and units of local government without home rule shall, by ordinance or resolution, regulate travel, meal and lodging expenses of their staff and officials and prohibit reimbursement of entertainment expenses.
The proposed regulations would set a maximum amount allowed for travel, meal and lodging expenses; spell out which expenses will be reimbursed; create a standard form for reimbursement of such expenses; and establish that payment would not be approved until such documentation has been approved by a roll-call vote.”
