Ranked-choice voting builds momentum in Chicago
With a runoff election all but guaranteed in the mayoral race, ranked-choice voting (RCV) is gaining steam in Chicago as a way to prevent runoffs and make elections more democratic.
RFI Executive Director Alisa Kaplan was interviewed on Reset with Sasha-Ann Simmons on WBEZ about ranked-choice voting and its implications for Chicago.
“As an organization that is concerned with democracy, that’s why we’re so interested in ranked-choice voting: because of the power it gives to voters,” she said. “The current system forces you to become a political strategist and try to figure out who’s the person that’s most likely to win that you can also tolerate voting for – rather than just thinking, ‘who do I want to win?’”
