Rauner orders political hires’ names be made public

Names of political hires under the governor’s office will be posted on a state website, Gov. Bruce Rauner said Thursday.

Rauner signed another executive order directing the disclosure of employees who are exempt from Rutan hiring rules. The Rutan decision says that politics cannot play a role in hiring, fire or promotions in thousands of state jobs.

However, politics is still allowed to be a factor in filling about 2,900 jobs, most of them upper echelon, policy-making positions. Those are known as Rutan-exempt jobs.
