Rauner rallies party faithful in Springfield

Republicans spent Thursday hammering home the idea that 10 years of Democratic control of the Statehouse has been ruinous for Illinois and it is time for a change.
And a day after Democrats tried to portray multimillionaire GOP governor candidate Bruce Rauner as too rich and out of touch to be governor, Rauner offered no apologies.
“I’m a middle-class kid,” Rauner said before a Republican Day rally at the Illinois State Fair. “I didn’t inherit any money. I worked my tail off on behalf of teachers and government workers and state troopers. I’ve made a lot of money, and I’m proud of it.”
