Rauner Slashes Illiana, Job-Creation Tax Credits and More
via Crain’s Chicago Business
Gov. Bruce Rauner today took his first formal steps to respond to the unbalanced fiscal 2016 budget approved by the Legislature, effectively killing the proposed Illiana Expressway and suspending funding for a variety of programs, including new Edge tax credits, tax breaks for movie making and helping poor people pay their heating bills.
In a statement, the governor said the actions will save a total of $400 million and promised that “additional” moves are coming because the budget OK’d by legislators but not yet sent to him is “$4 billion in the hole.”
The most definitive action appears to be the indefinite suspension of funding for the Illiana, a controversial road that would run between I-55 in Illinois and I-65 in Indiana.
