“Gov. Bruce Rauner spent $57 million to narrowly win his Republican primary election on Tuesday, while Democratic winner J.B. Pritzker spent $70 million, according to the Chicago Tribune. Gov. Rauner raised $75.5 million overall, which breaks down to $215 per vote, while Mr. Pritzker raised $69.5 million, amounting to $124 per vote, according to the Illinois Campaign for Political Reform. Gov. Rauner’s Republican challenger, Jeanne Ives, raised just $12 per vote, but received 49 percent of the primary vote.
Gov. Rauner spent $65.3 million of his own money when he was first elected governor in the general election of 2014.
Since winning the Democratic gubernatorial nomination, Mr. Pritzker is coming out swinging, holding press conferences with a “Rauner Failed Me” theme, even setting up a Raunerfailedme.com website. Mr. Pritzker’s campaign is focusing on residents affected by Gov. Rauner’s 736-day budget stalemate, saying it decimated child care services, hurt working class families, and slashed funding for veteran’s services and higher education.”
