RAUNER’S PLAN FOR ILLINOIS “TURNAROUND” SHOULD START WITH INVESTING IN MILLENNIALS

At a first-of-its-kind convention in September, then-gubernatorial candidate Bruce Rauner called millennials “the key” to building a bright future for our state. He vowed to listen to the ideas of several hundred millennials who had convened to vote on a political agenda for Illinois. During Wednesday’s State of the State Address, we hope Governor Rauner addresses a few popular ideas that young adults selected as their top priorities.

At a time when my generation is struggling to stay afloat in the wake of the Great Recession, our state is making it harder for our generation to recover. Our state has the fifth highest tuition costs and ninth highest young adult unemployment rate in the country. We need to tackle key millennial issues such as job training – and the time to address these is now.
