Record number of Chicago City Council runoffs as voters protest status quo
Via The Chicago Tribune
Voters sent a warning to more than 1 in 4 sitting aldermen this week, forcing them into one-on-one contests April 7 against challengers who are trying to create a wave of discontent with the status quo on the City Council.
A record 19 ward races will be decided in the runoff election, including 14 incumbents who failed to reach the 50-percent-plus-one vote threshold to win outright. While the veterans likely hold the advantage, the numbers alone create the possibility for a significant council shake-up.
