Record Turnout in Illinois Primary

“CHICAGO (AP) – Figures analyzed by a government watchdog group show Illinois had record turnout for a state primary with more than 3.3 million people voting.
The Illinois Campaign for Political Reform said Wednesday that preliminary figures show more than 1.9 million voters participated in the Democratic presidential primary. Nearly 1.4 million participated in the Republican presidential primary.

The numbers represent a 44.6 percent voter turnout. That’s much higher than the presidential primaries in 2012 and 2008, which had turnout of 20.8 percent and 32 percent respectively.

Turnout was also higher than usual in other closely watched contests, including the race for Cook County state’s attorney, where Anita Alvarez was ousted by Kim Foxx, and the 5th district primary, where by Juliana Stratton defeated state Rep. Ken Dunkin.”
