Reformers Push Rauner to Sign Disclosure Bill

Good-government groups are calling on Gov. Bruce Rauner to a sign a bill designed to require independent expenditure political groups to disclose their spending just as quickly as candidates and political action committees.

But amid signs of rising GOP opposition and Springfield budget warfare, the prospect of this bill becoming law seems pretty iffy.

Under the bill, the big independent expenditure groups that are fast rising in influence here still would be able to collect and spend unlimited sums. Such groups played major roles in last year’s GOP primary for governor and in Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s recent re-election campaign.
