RFI Executive Director comments on ethics shortcomings; Madigan conviction could mark shift
Crain’s Chicago Business details the state of Illinois politics and examines shortcomings of past ethics reform.
“I think they [legislators in Springfield] believe they did their job back in 2021,” said RFI Executive Director Alisa Kaplan, reflecting on the ethics omnibus that was passed after Madigan’s ouster earlier that year.
“Once they did that, the problem was essentially solved. And I think that belief persists in spite of the fact that we’ve seen cases that have nothing to do with Madigan growing out of these federal prosecutions,” she said, also faulting Pritzker. “He wants more from the Legislature, but he didn’t spend any political capital to get stronger legislation passed.”
