Small donors have a meaningful impact with public financing
RFI ED Alisa Kaplan joined John Howell of WLS Radio to discuss the benefits of public financing and how it has successfully been implemented in other cities across the country.
“Let’s say you want to donate $10 to a candidate you really believe in. In Chicago, if you donate $10, it will go into a huge pot of money dominated by wealthy donors… what [public financing] does, [the city] takes that $10 and matches it by some factor… all of a sudden you can actually have a meaningful impact on the candidate you support.”
