“The Illinois General Assembly’s Commission on Government Forecasting and Accountability delivered some more sobering news last week.
At least, it should be sobering to anyone concerned about the long-term stability of the state.
In its monthly report on state finances for December, COGFA said state tax collections continue to perform poorly. They’ve been doing poorly ever since the start of the state’s fiscal year July 1. In fact, COGFA said that through the first 6 months of the year, the state’s big three tax producers – individual and corporate income taxes and the sales tax – are all down.”
