“Connoisseurs of grim statistics will have a field day with new data out today from the non-partisan public interest group Illinois Campaign for Political Reform, which took a look at how the ongoing state budget impasse in Illinois compares with similar situations in other states across the country.

As of today, Illinois has officially gone 364 days without a state budget. Of 891 combined overdue budget days from states across the United States since the start of FY2014, Illinois accounts for 40 percent of those days and Pennsylvania for 31 percent. The next highest state on the list after those two is North Carolina, with 12 percent.

But with the notable exception of Illinois and Pennsylvania, nearly every state that was overdue to reach a budget agreement in the past three years managed to pass a stopgap budget within the first month after the June 30 deadline.”
