“Fifty-five miles south of Champaign-Urbana in the 110th House District, incumbent state Rep. Reggie Phillips, R-Charleston, has a rare problem among state legislators: he has an actual opponent in the November election.
Dennis F. Malak of Charleston filed on May 31 — the last day to do so — to run against Phillips in the district that includes Coles, Edgar, Clark, Cumberland, Crawford and Lawrence counties. He had to pass petitions and to be slated by the Democratic Party to get on the ballot.
In March, Malak had filed to run as an independent.”
